I finally finished the website for The Quarterly Bathroom Companion Comics Compendium (The QBCCC), a comic anthology that I founded with fellow artists Josel Nicolas and DJ Legaspi. The site features most of the comics from the printed version as well as the essays and reviews. There's also a directory of the creators who contributed their work. And the illustrations, posters and unused art can also be seen on the site. There's a lot more so visit the site at www.qbccc.net.
This website is a milestone for me because it's the first time that I managed to create a big website on my own with complete features and contents that can be easily updated through the CMS. Usually, I team up with a web developer to do the code but thanks to the many tutorials on the web, I was able to do this by myself by learning Drupal. Now, I am confident that I could create more sites like this.
I wanted the site to have its own aesthetic. The color scheme is mostly black and white and gray imitating the real world version of the book which is produced indie-style through photocopy machines. Also, by using B&W on the static elements, the focus will be on the main content of the site which are most of the time black & white as well. The background may seem to be just a plain light gray but it's actually a tissue paper pattern which is in accordance to the "bathroom companion" theme. Dashes of bright pink and some bright blue accents the design.
The doodles on the header and footer is inspired by the very first cover I did for the book which I discussed here.
Now, if for some reason you do not like the design, you could always destroy it! I've hidden a few easter eggs/hacks on the site and one of them is the konami code. If you do not know what that is, shame on you! It's ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A enter. If you type this sequence while on the site, a small triangular spaceship will appear in the upper left region. You can control it by using the arrow keys and blast off all of the site by pressing spacebar. You can actually try it now because I have it on this site as well. hehe.
There are four more hacks on the QBCCC site that can be revealed by answering these questions:
1. A thing that you usually see in the bathroom. It's a three-letter tagalog word.
2. What is the title of the komik that features people using cats as arsonists?
3. There is a left-handed character in one of the komiks. What is its title?
4. Title of the story where the lead character suffers from compulsive hoarding.
Like the konami code, just type the answer (no spaces) while on the site and something will definitely happen if you typed the right answer. hehe.
Visit the site from time to time because we will most definitely update it regularly and like us on facebook.
